Farmington Hills police say woman attacked, carjacked in apartment complex

Woman in stable condition after incident Wednesday night at Fairmont Park

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – A woman has been hospitalized after being attacked and carjacked in a Farmington Hills apartment complex.

Police said the 42-year-old woman was returning home at 11 p.m. Wednesday at the Fairmont Park apartments -- which are near Drake and 9 Mile roads -- when she was grabbed by two people.

She was forced back into her car, but was able to escape a short time later. She is listed in stable condition at an area hospital.

Local 4 spoke with the victim's mother, Connie, by phone in her daughter's hospital bed.

"She's traumatized I can tell you that right now. She keeps playing it over and over in her head," Connie said. "She doesn't know these people and doesn't know why this happened to her."

The mother said her daughter suffered some injuries from the attack, but will be OK.

"She's a fighter and always has been," Connie said. "These people were up to no-good and the story could have had a whole different ending. God was on her side."

Police find vehicle, arrest 2 after foot chase

Farmington Hills police recovered the woman's 2010 Honda Crosstour on Thursday. It was in the area of Drake and 11 Mile Roads. The two people inside the vehicle were arrested after a short foot chase. Police say someone who saw the story in the media alerted police about the vehicle's whereabouts.

"As a result of all the TV coverage today, we received a tip that a citizen was following the vehicle to 13 Mile and Drake in Farmington Hills. Our officers intercepted it around 11 Mile and Drake," saod Chief Charles Nebus, Farmington Hills police. "There was a short chase. The suspect driving the victim's stolen car lost control and ended up in a ditch. They tried to get away on foot."

Nebus said a male and female are in custody.

Charges are pending.
