Forecast: Big changes on the way to SE Michigan

And you'd better get used to it

DETROIT – I hope you had the chance to get out and enjoy this mild early spring day!

We all know how this happens: the annual tug-of-war between cold and warm weather begins in March, with the cold usually winning these early battles. So we end up with brief (but still much-welcomed) tastes of spring, and then get slammed back into Mother Nature's version of reality.

Of course, you and I have a different version of that reality, but it doesn't matter. So keep this in mind as you read this forecast.

We'll stay mild through the evening, but then a strong cold front crosses the area roughly around midnight. That cold front is the front edge of a much colder air mass that will be with us through the upcoming weekend. A few sprinkles or scattered very light showers are possible overnight, but I don't expect much (if any) measurable precipitation. The best chance to see anything is north of M-59. Lows in the upper 30s to near 40°. Wind will shift from the southwest ahead of the front to the northwest behind the front, and increase to 10 to 20 mph by dawn.

Tuesday will start out mostly cloudy and breezy, but skies will become mostly sunny during the morning. So, when you grab that jacket before you head off to work, also grab your sunglasses for the ride home. Temperatures will only rise into the low to mid 40s, but a northwest wind at 15 to 25 mph will certainly make it feel chillier.

Tuesday's sunrise is at 7:42 AM, and Tuesday's sunset is at 7:42 PM.
