Detroit police: Teen shot on city's west side

15-year-old suffers gunshot wound at home on Minock Street

DETROIT – Detroit police say a 15-year-old boy was shot Monday afternoon at a home in the 7700 block of Minock Street on the city's west side.

Police say the boy's wound is non-life-threatening. He was shot in the leg. He is being treated at a nearby hospital.

Witnesses called it an ambush. They say men starting firing shots at the home before kicking in the door and shooting inside.

"My daughter called me and said my grandson got shot," said Joyce Muhammad, the boy's grandmother. "She said people kicked the door in and came in and shot up the house. They have a little baby in here who is 1 year old -- my great granddaughter. The EMS got my grandson and my daughter and brought them to the hospital. They said about 10 grown men came after my grandson who is only 15 years old."

The baby was in the home at the time but was not injured.

Detroit police are investigating.
