Man breaks into Lapeer car wash through roof
Police found evidence of narcotics in search of man's home
LAPEER COUNTY, Mich. – Lapeer County police say a 34-year-old Columbiaville man was arrested Wednesday after he stole money from a car wash by breaking in through the roof.
Officers responded to a call Sunday at 9:17 a.m. after the owner of Hickory Place Car Wash discovered a burglary at his business in the 5000 block of N. Lapeer Road.
Police found that the building's power was disconnected between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Saturday, and someone broke into the office through the roof. Some change was taken from the office area.
Lapeer County Bank and Trust told police that Jorge Ortiz visited the bank and asked to exchange a large amount of chance for paper money. Police found evidence of illegal drugs during a visit to Ortiz's home in Columbiaville and took him into custody.
An arrest warrant was authorized for Ortiz, including burglary, larceny in a building and felony narcotics criminal charges.
Ortiz is being held in the Lapeer County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 14.
