DETROIT – A young Detroit mother and her little girl came face-to-face with, not one, but five home invaders.
Donesha said heard one of the intruders yell police as they broke into her home and confronted her in the bedroom.
"Boom and you hear multiple footsteps," she recalled. "The first man had on all black. He had a gun."
She quickly realized the man and about four other robbers weren't cops. The man with the gun ordered Donesha and her four-year-old daughter to lie down in the hallway.
"He kept asking ‘bitch where's the money at,'" she said. "I said I'm broke. I don't have any money."
This was happening only a few feet away from the little girl's room, decorated with princesses and Mickey Mouse characters.
"She was crying," Donesha said about her daughter. "He told me to tell my daughter to shut up before I kill her."
Donesha positioned her body on top of the girl.
"My baby was under me," she said. "I was just praying and hoping they didn't hurt me and my baby."
Donesha never saw their faces. They ransacked the house for about 15 minutes, and then put mother and daughter in the bathroom. Donesha didn't come out until the house was quiet.
The thieves took a TV, a coat, and her wallet. Donesha said her biggest loss is the feeling of security in the house she has owned for five years.
"I feel like there's nothing I can do," she said. "Even if I get an alarm or locks, they'll find a way into your house.
She said she and her daughter likely will leave the city.
"I just want to walk away from the house," she said. "This is scary. I don't want my baby to be in the area like that."
