Beautiful Friday in progress

But what about the weekend? And what about the Ford Fireworks weather?

DETROIT – Mostly clear north and partly cloudy south overnight, with lows in the mid to upper 50s -- and perhaps some low 50s readings north of I-69.

For you Canadians in southwest Ontario, that is 14° Celsius. Light northeast wind.

Saturday forecast:

Most of us should enjoy a dry Saturday daytime, with only a few spotty and very light showers possible in the morning as the remnants of Tropical Storm Bill slide eastward just south of the state line. Highs in the upper 70s to near 80° (26° Celsius). Southeast wind at 4 to 8 mph. Sunrise and sunset are very important for those of you observing Ramadan, so Saturday's sunrise is at 5:57 AM, and Saturday's sunset is at 9:13 PM.

Warmer and more humid with a chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday night. Lows in the upper 60s.

Sunday forecast:

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Sunday morning ahead of another cold front but, as long as the front comes through no later than late morning (as today's computer models suggest), we should see developing sunshine Sunday afternoon -- our afternoon and evening barbeques and golf games should be in good shape. Highs in the low to mid 80s.

Partly cloudy Sunday night, with lows in the low 60s.

Ford Fireworks forecast:

The weather for Ford Fireworks day on Monday is still highly uncertain. While we'll have high pressure over the Great Lakes, remember that our atmosphere is three-dimensional, and that things happening aloft control much of our day-to-day weather. In this case, a weak upper level disturbance will cross Michigan, and it's going to trigger showers and thunderstorms -- it's just a matter of when. Today's longer range models suggest that we'll be dry Monday morning into the afternoon. But then the models differ as to if that disturbance will approach late afternoon / evening, or later at night. This is a very, very close call and, if there was ever a reason to download the FREE Local4Casters weather app and track weather on radar, this is it. Highs near 80°, with temperatures falling through the 70s in the evening.

As mentioned above, showers and thunderstorms increase at some point Monday night. Lows in the low 60s.

Next week:

Even if we start our Tuesday with a very early morning shower, I think most of the day will be dry with at least partial sunshine. Highs near 80°.

Mostly clear Tuesday night, with lows in the low 60s.

Partly cloudy on Wednesday, with highs in the mid 70s.

Increasing clouds Wednesday night with showers and thunderstorms developing. Lows in the mid to upper 60s.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely on Thursday, with highs in the mid 70s.

Partly cloudy on Friday, with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
