DETROIT – As expected, we had significantly lower shower coverage this afternoon -- just some widely scattered, small showers that mainly affected the Thumb.
These will die off toward sunset, and we'll become mostly clear. If you're heading to the Tigers game at Comerica Park, you'll have a dry game with temps starting in the 70s, and then falling into the upper 60s by the end of the game. Overnight lows ranging from mid 50s in the coldest spots, to near 60° in Detroit's Urban Heat Island (14-15° Celsius, for you Canadians). Northwest wind at 4 to 8 mph.
Mostly sunny and absolutely spectacular on Wednesday, with highs in the mid to upper 70s (25° Celsius). Northwest wind at 5 to 10 mph. Wednesday's sunrise is at 6:30 AM, and Wednesday's sunset is at 8:48 PM.
Mostly clear Wednesday night, with lows near 60°.
Partly cloudy on Thursday, with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
Increasing clouds Thursday night, with lows in the low 60s.
Friday is a tough call, but right now I'm going to keep it dry -- although we'll see plenty of cloud cover. Highs in the upper 70s.
Becoming partly cloudy Friday night, with lows in the low 60s.
Partly cloudy on Saturday, with highs in the low 80s.
Partly cloudy Saturday night, with lows in the mid 60s.
Sunday is also a difficult forecast due to the weakness of the upper level disturbance heading our way (the computer models are notorious for not handling these weak disturbances particularly well many days in advance). At this point, I think it's prudent to add the chance for some afternoon showers and thunderstorms, although this is by no means certain. I'll try to hone in on the specifics and update you in the next couple of days. Highs in the low 80s.
Showers and thunderstorm chances continue Sunday night, with lows in the mid 60s.
Based upon today's models, the Sunday night showers and storms should end first thing Monday morning. If this timing pans out, then we'll salvage a good chunk of the day with some sunshine. Highs near 80°.
Mostly clear Monday night, with lows near 60.
Partly cloudy on Tuesday, with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
I took a quick peek at the super long range models this afternoon, and they suggest a solid warming trend for the rest of the week. Stay tuned.
