Restaurant employees, patrons subdue armed robber

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Coney Island employees and patrons subdued an armed robber Sunday morning in Shelby Township, according to police.

The robbery occurred at the National Coney Island near 23 Mile and Schoenherr roads around 9 a.m.

A 23-year-old man told the cashier that he had a gun and demanded money from the register.

Restaurant employees and patrons physically restrained the man as he attempted to escape.

Officers arrived and took the man into custody, recovering a large knife. The man did not have a gun.

No citizens or officers were harmed in the incident.

The man is expected to be arraigned Monday.
