Elderly women carjacked when leaving MotorCity Casino

Surveillance video caught images of carjacker

DETROIT – Two women were robbed and carjacked as they were leaving a Detroit casino Wednesday morning. Video surveillance was released showing the moments leading up to the carjacking.

The women, ages 78 and 68, were in a parking garage around 5:30 a.m. at the MotorCity Casino when a man forced them into their car.

They were told to drive around and were left on a west side street.

The video shows the man entering the casino around 1 a.m. Hours later, he began following the women to the parking garage.

Beverly Hill, one of the victims, said without their cellphones and purses, she and her sister had to watch the man drive off in her PT Cruiser.

"I was just praying we could find somebody or something to get us back to our family," said Hill.

Hill and her sister walked for about 20 minutes until a man saw them and approached. He was asking for a light but he stayed with them until they got to a nearby police precinct where a report was filed.

"He said, 'You know what, I'm gonna be late but I'm gonna walk you to the police station,'" said Hill.

The women weren't hurt, but some cash, personal items and the car were taken.

The Commercial Auto Theft Squad found Hill's PT Cruiser Friday afternoon around the corner from the casino.

Police are looking for help from the public in identifying the man in the surveillance video. If you know this man, please call police or 1-800-242-HEAT.
