Woman killed in boating collision on Lake St. Clair

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A woman died in a boating accident on Lake St. Clair Friday night, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

The collision happened about a mile out from MacRay Harbor in Harrision Township when a speeding vessel crashed into a drifting vessel.

Michael Urick, of Chesterfield Township, was piloting his 31 foot speedboat coming back from dinner with his wife Tamara.

"All of a sudden a 30 foot vessel came at what witnesses say was a high rate of speed crashed into the vessel," said Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham.

Tamara Urick was thrown from the boat in the crash, along with her husband Michael.  Two of the six people onboard the drifting boat was also thrown overboard in the crash.

The Sheriff's Office received the 911 call around 8 p.m. and rescue crews were dispatched.

Dive teams from the Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Coast Guard recovered the Tamara's body around 1 a.m. She was 43.

Michael Urick remains in the hospital with broken ribs and a back injury. The couple has two children.

The accident is under investigation.
