Wayne Darrell Jones accused of robbing sisters at gunpoint

DETROIT – A 49-year-old Redford Township man is charged in connection to last week's carjacking of a 68-year-old Sterling Heights woman and a 78-year-old Clinton Township woman as they were leaving the MotorCity Casino.

Wayne Darrell Jones is accused of getting into the car with the two women and robbing them of money and their purses at gunpoint.

Jones ordered the 68-year-old woman to drive the car and when they reached a field near Schoolcraft and Appoline Street he ordered the women out of the car and drove away, police said.

The women walked about two miles until they met a man who helped them to safety at the Detroit Police Department's 2nd Precinct.

Jones was captured on surveillance video. He was arrested Saturday and is charged with two counts of carjacking, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of unlawful imprisonment and two counts of felony firearm.

He was arraigned Monday and is held on a $100,000 bond.
