Southbound I-75 back open at 9 Mile in Hazel Park after fatal crash

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – Southbound I-75 is back open after being closed for several hours at 9 Mile Road because of a crash.

Michigan State Police said a Toyota, occupied by two men, was stopped in the center lane of the interstate for an unknown reason around 3:30 a.m. when it was hit by a Nissan SUV.

One of the men in the Toyota was killed. The other was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The Hazel Park Fire Department is on the scene assisting Michigan State Police.

State Police tell Local 4 that they plan to have the freeway closed for several hours while they do the accident investigation.
