Clinton Township couple charged in toddler's death

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A Clinton Township couple is accused of abusing an 18-month-old boy so severely that he died.

Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith charged William Warren III with felony murder and first-degree child abuse. Smith also charged Brandee Wright with involuntary manslaughter, second-degree child abuse and lying to a peace officer.

Police and prosecutors allege that Amere Carver, Warren's son from a previous relationship, suffered severe head trauma and other serious injuries while he was in Warren's care on Aug. 11.  The toddler died two days later.

Police said they believe that Wright asked a roommate to help cover up the incident by lying about who had been watching the toddler.

Police said the boy also had bruising and burns on his body.

Warren and Wright were arraigned Friday.
