Purse snatcher run down by good Samaritans in Ypsilanti

Police arrested suspect after lengthy slow-speed chase

YPSILANTI, Mich. – A woman's purse was snatched and recovered after four good Samaritans came to her rescue in Ypsilanti Saturday morning, according to police.

The incident occurred in the area of North Summit and Sheridan streets around 3 a.m.

A 30-year-old woman was walking home when she heard foot steps behind her. When she turned around, a 44-year-old man with his T-shirt pulled over his face to conceal his identity grabbed her purse and ran.

The woman began screaming for help and four people nearby chased the suspect down and recovered the woman's purse. They told police the suspect had fled the area in a black Honda Civic.

Officers located the Honda and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to stop.

After a lengthy slow-speed chase, the suspect was arrested.
