Suspect in Henry Ford High School student's sexual assault takes plea deal

Justin Johnson pleads guilty to assaulting 15-year-old in June as she walked to school

DETROIT – A Detroit man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old Henry Ford High School student as she walked to school in June.

Justin Johnson, 22, accepted a plea deal Monday. He pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and accosting a minor for immoral purposes and felony firearms charges. In exchange, charges of kidnapping and felonious assault were dismissed.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 13.

Prosecutors said Johnson assaulted the teen the morning of June 3 in the area of Trojan and Grandville streets. The girl testified that even though Johnson was wearing a mask during the attack, she recognized his eyes because he had flirted with her before.

The teen was walking to school alone because her usual walking partner, a 14-year-old girl, was killed the night before when a van hit her and another girl while they crossed 8 Mile Road at Evergreen Road.
