DETROIT – A man is in custody after attempting to rob a dollar story and a brief foot chase on Detroit's west side.

A 44-year-old masked man entered the Family Dollar on Grand River Avenue near Evergreen road around 8:30 a.m. and walked behind the register pointing a gun at the employee.
A customer walked in and attempted to leave, but was ordered to stay inside the store by the suspect.
Police were a block away and when they arrived, employees and a customer pointed towards the suspect who was still in the back of the store.
After a brief foot chase, police took the man into custody. A weapon and an undisclosed amount of money was recovered.
The suspect is being held at Detroit Detention Center.
