Scam uses Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office's caller ID

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is warning the community about a scammer who is using the office's name on caller ID.

In a statement Monday, the sheriff's office said its name is coming up on calls from a person who claims to be a deputy and is inquiring about past due taxes. The person asks the resident for personal and pay information to take care of the past taxes.  If the resident refuse to give the information, or make a payment, the caller threatens to have a deputy sent to the home, the sheriff's office said.
