Michigan State Police said the trooper involved in accident was on his way to assist another trooper on a traffic stop when a SUV ran a flashing red light, hitting the police cruiser.
Both the trooper and the driver of the SUV were transported to the hospital and have since been released. The at-fault driver is now in custody.
State Police suspect narcotics may have been a factor as to why the driver ran the flashing red light.
