Local activists planning more DPS closures due to sick days

DETROIT – After several school closures last week, local activists are planning for even more.

More than four thousand kids were unable to attend classes last week after Detroit teachers called in sick. Some teachers are protesting cuts to health benefits and a lack of resources

"This continued abuse of sick time by a small group of DPS teachers does nothing to help the District achieve its goals of improving academic achievement and becoming a solvent and sustainable school system," said DPS in a statement.

Students at the meeting Sunday were outspoken about the realities of their education. Activists said proposed changes by Gov. Rick Snyder to the district will hurt students
