MILFORD, Mich. – Gregory Alan Cortis, the 68-year-old man with Alzheimer’s brutally attacked with a crowbar Nov. 30 in Milford, succumbed to his injuries Saturday.
The report from the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office is pending, however it appears the cause of death is multiple blunt force traumas to the head and torso.
Yvonne Helen Cortis, the suspect and victim’s wife, had admitted to police that she struck her husband and the family dog with a crowbar.
“She said that they were both sick and was putting them out of their misery,” Sgt. Scott Tarasiewicz told the court during Cotis’ arraignment.
She remains in custody charged with assault with intent to murder and animal torturing.
She is being held on a $1 million bond.
“We will be working with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office to enhance the charges to a murder case,” said Milford Police Chief Thomas C. Lindberg. “The Milford police will work with the rest of the Cortis family in aiding them to put closure to this tragic incident.”
The family dog, Carly, remains in the care of the Veterinary Care Specialists of Milford.
