Woman, 62, killed in drive-by shooting on Detroit's west side

Victim identified as Vanessa Broadnex

DETROIT – A 62-year-old woman was killed overnight on Detroit's west side when her car was shot at multiple times.

Police said the victim, identified as Vanessa Broadnex, was driving near Ellis Street and St. Marys just after midnight when the gunfire erupted. The car then crashed into a utility pole.

Broadnex died from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the medical examiner's office.

Family members of the victim told Local 4 at the scene that Broadnex had a son and would have celebrated her birthday next week.

Police have not released a description of who they might be looking for, or a possible motive. However, they do believe the woman was targeted and this what not a random attack.
