PONTIAC, Mich. – Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson delivered his 2016 State of the County address Wednesday night.

Patterson announced during the address that he is running for a seventh term.

He also announced an expansion of I-75.

"Oakland County has reached an agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation, MDOT, to modernize I-75 by adding a fourth lane starting a 8 Mile Road all the way to M-59," Patterson said. "I-75, the busiest expressway in Michigan, becomes a parking lot at rush hour. We need relief and we're going to get it."

He focused on how Oakland County is reinvesting for sustainability because of the county’s deep dive into the knowledge-based economy and balanced multi-year budget.

Patterson also proposed paid parental leave for county employees in which mothers and fathers would get six weeks of paid leave following the birth or adoption of a child.
