Woman arraigned in stabbing of mother at GM Tech Center

Chevonne Taylor charged with assault, carrying dangerous weapon

WARREN, mich. – A woman accused of stabbing her mother at the GM Tech Center in Warren was arraigned Friday on two charges.

Stephanie Kerr, 52, is in critical condition after police said her daughter, Chevonne Taylor, confronted her Wednesday morning while she was working at the tech center.

Police said Taylor went to the tech center's lobby and asked that her mother be called down. When Kerr and Taylor went outside, Kerr was stabbed multiple times with a steak knife, police said.

A valet at the tech center -- who has a gun license -- saw the attack and used his gun to hold Taylor at bay until police arrived.

Taylor is charged with assault with intent to murder and carrying a dangerous weapon. Her bail was set at $500,000 cash/surety.

Kerr's family members said Taylor struggles with mental health issues and that doctors had taken her off medication about three months ago because they said she was doing better.

"It's very difficult because it just brings tension between the family," Matthen Kerr, the victim's son, said.
