Shooting suspect in custody after man killed, another man injured in Taylor

Alleged shooter leads police on foot chase through neighborhood


TAYLOR, Mich. – A man is dead and another man is wounded after a shooting in Taylor, police said.

Taylor police said officers went to a residence in the 15600 block of Wellington Street around 7:45 p.m. Saturday, where they found two people, identified as Taylor residents, who had been shot inside the home.

Jose Luis Zambrano, 23-year-old,had been shot in the chin and chest, and a 26-year-old man had been shot in the arm, according to police.

Both victims were taken to a hospital. Police said Zambrano died of his injuries at the hospital.

The alleged shooter, identified by Taylor police as a Detroit man, was still at the location when officers arrived. Police said he led officers on a foot chase through the neighborhood.

The shooter attempted to break into a house on Frieda Court trying to avoid officers, but he was apprehended before he could gain entry, police said. He was taken into custody.

Preliminary information shows that the shooter and victims knew each other, according to Taylor police.

Police said they are continuing to investigate to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Several witnesses were inside the home at the time of the shooting. Police said they are currently being interviewed.
