Alleged Detroit serial rapist arraigned on new murder charge

DETROIT – The alleged serial rapist that was charged in two attacks has been charged with murder, according to authorities.

Darrian Winfield, 20, of Detroit, is charged with first-degree murder, home invasion first degree, and criminal sexual conduct second degree. He was arraigned Thursday in 36th District Court.

It is alleged that Winfield broke into a home in the 5500 block of Radnor Street on Jan. 7 and sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl and physically assaulted her.

The young woman was Ge'Naye Washington. She later died from injuries she sustained during the attack.

"I feel like no matter how much time they give him, he still can open and close his eyes, and I’m going to miss my baby,” Ge'Naye's mother Shelly Washington said.

He was previously charged with home invasion with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct in Detroit and assault with intent to murder in Grosse Pointe.

If convicted on the murder charge, Winfield would spend the rest of his life in prison.
