Howell middle schooler killed in ATV accident
District says Matthew Longthorne died Saturday
HOWELL, Mich. – An 8th grade student at Highlander Way Middle School in Howell died over the weekend in an ATV accident, the school district said.
Matthew Longthorne died Saturday.
The sheriff's department said a 28-year-old Howell man was operating the ORV at Hawk Meadows Golf Course in Howell Township on Saturday when it overturned, ejecting the boy. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was injured.

The entire Howell Public Schools community extends their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Highlander Way Middle School eighth grade student Matthew Longthorne. Matthew passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016.
The Highlander Way Middle School administration and staff will be taking steps to assist and support students as they grieve the loss of their classmate. Counselors are available for any student who is in need of support during this difficult time.
