Cold, snow in April in Detroit

Lows in the 20s

DETROIT – It's April. It's Michigan. Snow is not unheard of and is possible Saturday. Sunday will be brighter but colder. Clipper systems will arrive one after the other with a wintry mix and waves of cold air this weekend and early next week.

Saturday afternoon, indoor activities like the Novi Home and Garden Show are excellent places to be to feel warm. Skies will become cloudy, and it will be chilly. Highs will barely rise above 40 degrees. Snow arrives and will be heavy, at times. Streets and sidewalks become treacherous by dinnertime. Areas south of I-94 may have periods of chilly rain or a wintry mix, but will remain hazardous.

As wind speeds and gusts increase, the potential for downed trees, tree limbs, power lines and street lights exists. Everyone should remain clear of any fallen wires and alert the authorities right away.

A half inch to 2 inches of snow will fall by the end of Satruday night with some neighborhood receiving nearly 3 inches. Temperatures will fall to freezing then the 20s overnight. Anyone with Saturday night plans will need to drive carefully on slick and slushy roads, no matter how much snow falls. Also, it will be windy, and wind chills will be in the teens and low 20s.

Sunday will be sunnier but colder and breezy. Morning lows will be in the low and mid 20s. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 30s.

Another chance of rain and snow will be on Sunday night and Monday morning. Light accumulations are expected, again.

Monday will become partly sunny and remain chilly. Highs will be near 40 degrees. Tuesday will be sunny and cold with highs in the upper 30s.
