WJXT-TV reports the incident happened at the 8th Avenue North part of the beach.

A lifeguard spokesperson said a call came in for help rescuing someone around 10:45 a.m. Saturday. At the time, lifeguards had not arrived at their stations.

The man was trying to save his 6-year-old daughter, authorities said. The daughter survived.

Jacksonville Beach lifeguards didn't have an exact number, but said they had rescued at least four other people Saturday because of rip conditions and rough surf.
