Source: Suspect in deadly shooting of Detroit girl found dead from apparent suicide

DETROIT – A man who was facing a murder charge in connection with the death of a 3-year-old girl who was shot Easter morning in a home on Detroit's west side was found dead in his jail cell from an apparent suicide, a source told Local 4.

Paul Kendall Jr., 24, was found dead Wednesday in the Wayne County Jail, where he was being held on several charges, including first-degree and felony murder.

The source also said Kendall was found dead shortly after he had a visitor.

A'naiya Montgomery was killed when a gunman opened fire in a home on Riverview. Two adults were also hit by the gunfire, but survived.

Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Athina Siringas said they intended to prove Kendall was the shooter.

His trial was slated to begin in June.

Reginald Street, 19, of Detroit, and Jonathan Lamar Burks, 30, of Detroit, are also charged in the shooting.

Montgomery's death sparked a peace rally, where community leaders asked the public to be vigilant of gun violence in the city.
