Suspect jumps barbed-wire fence in Ferndale to escape police

FERNDALE, Mich. – A man jumped a barbed-wire fence in an attempt to escape police who were chasing him Friday morning after he crashed his van into another car in Ferndale.

Police said Travis Lee, 28, of Pontiac, made an illegal right turn at a red light at Woodward Avenue and 9 Mile Road, and refused to pull over when an officer tried to stop him.

He sped eastbound down 9 Mile Road in what police only described as a "1989 van" until he collided with another car near East Troy Street. He got out and ran from the scene, climbing over the 10-foot barbed wire fence, but was arrested by police.

A woman in the car Lee hit was not hurt, police said.

Lee is charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting police and driving with a suspended license, second offense.
