Former Detroit Councilman David Eberhard dies at 82

DETROIT – Former Detroit City Councilman David Eberhard died Tuesday at the age of 82.

Rev. Dr. Eberhard was elected to Detroit City Council in 1969 where he served until 1993. He was elected six times in city wide elections.

He was born on January 1, 1934 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a graduate of Concorida Seminary, held a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Divinity, Master of Theology, and Doctor of Letters degrees.

Eberhard started at Riverside Luthean Church in 1959 until 1977, and was an associate pastor in 1980 at Historic Trinity Lutheran Church.  In 1983, he became the head pastor at Historic Trinity Lutheran Church.

In September of 1995 Dr. Eberhard began LCM - Lutheran City Ministries of Detroit. In 1998 Lutheran City Ministries became an independent ministry. In 2010 Historic Trinity in partnership with Our Shepherd, began the Lutheran Church in the City.
