Defunct car wash partially collapses, crushes man on Detroit's west side

40-year-old man killed in wall collapse


DETROIT – A building partially collapsed and fell onto a 40-year-old man Wednesday evening at Fenkell Avenue and Burgess on Detroit's west side. 

Part of the defunct car wash on the corner collapsed, sending heavy concrete blocks onto the man. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries and pronounced dead.

A second 40-year-old man was taken to the hospital and released.

The building is owned by a church and was under redevelopment.
