Man taken into custody after walking onto tarmac at Detroit Metro Airport

Airport spokeswoman: Man had gone through security, only made it few steps

ROMULUS, Mich. – A man was taken into custody Wednesday morning after walking out onto a tarmac at the North Terminal of Detroit Metro Airport.

A spokeswoman for the airport said the man, who had gone through the normal security lines, only made it about 15 steps out before he was taken into custody for questioning. The spokeswoman also said that the incident did not affect any forefront airport operations.

Grounds crews Local 4 spoke said the man was on a jetway when he stopped short of boarding the plane and walked down to the tarmac.

"Once you get down there with us, you either have credentials or you're in trouble. We don't know you. It's scary," said crew member Charlie Flowers. "I think he was inebriated because he looked like he was lost when the police got him, because he was as walking around like he was a little drunk."
