Seized: $680,000 in phony championship rings at Detroit Metro Airport

Counterfeit NHL, NFL, MLB championship rings were in shipment from China

ROMULUS, Mich. – The U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Thursday released photos of counterfeit NHL, NFL and MLB championship rings that were uncovered in a shipment from China at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

CBP said agents seized 136 counterfeit rings -- estimated to be worth $680,000 --- in April.

The rings displayed the names and logos of several teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, New Orleans Saints and the New York Jets. The shipment also included rings for the Chicago Black Hawks and the Boston Red Sox.

CBP said the company identified as the receiver of the rings used a fictitious name and was found to have previous copyright/trademark violations.
