Thunderstorms rumble Thursday in metro Detroit

Highs near 80°F

DETROIT – What did not appear yesterday will appear today ... showers and thunderstorms.

They it becomes sunnier and hotter during the last days of spring, including Fathers' Day, and the first day of summer.

Thursday morning, the line of storms responsible for Wisconsin's severe weather threats dives across Southeast Michigan as Detroiters wake up. Between 4am and 7am, a line of showers and thunderstorms will move impact the area. Cities, especially north of 8 Mile, will receive heavy downpours and gusty winds when the line races across. Temps start in the middle 60s.

A rotating mass of low pressure will keep on and off showers and storms in the forecast through the midday and afternoon hours. Highs will be in the upper 70s (low 80s if any sunshine appears for a prolonged period of time).

Any rain activity diminishes during the course of Thursday evening with temps in the low 70s. Skie become partly cloudy by midnight.

Thursday night will become mostly clear. The air goes from mild to cool as temps fall from the upper 60s to the low 60s and upper 50s.

Friday and Fathers' Day Weekend (Spring 2016's last full days) will be sunny and become hotter each day. Friday's afternoon temps will be in the low and middle 80s. Saturday will be in the middle and upper 80s. Fathers' Day, Sunday, will be near 90°F.

The summer solstice, aka the astronomical start of summer, is at 6:34pm ET, Monday. The day will feel like the season. High's will be near 90°F just before the celestial event.
