Man sentenced in murder of mother of 7

PONTIAC, Mich. – A Waterford Township man was sentenced Wednesday in the murder of his girlfriend who was a mother of seven.
Akira McCray was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of 32-year-old Kenyette Barnes.

Barnes was shot multiple times in her Pontiac home in April 2015 during an argument. Barnes’ 2-year-old daughter, Ahmiya, was standing next to her mother when the gunfire erupted and was hit in the leg.

Ahmiya survived the shooting. She was found lying next to the body of her lifeless mother.

McCray was taken into custody after the shooting.

As bailiffs took McCray away after sentencing, one final angry exchange took place between the victim’s family and the murderer.
