Police identify truck driver killed in crash in I-96 in Howell

HOWELL, Mich. – Michigan State Police have identified the truck driver who was killed Wednesday in a crash on I-96. 

Police said 39-year-old Jacob Shofner, of Owosso, was driving a GMC box truck westbound when he crashed into the back of a semi-truck trailer, which had slowed because of traffic. 

The crash happened near Mason Road. 

The semi-truck's driver, a 25-year-old woman from Missouri, was not seriously hurt. 

Shofner was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Police said alcohol and drugs are not considered to be a factor in the crash.
