Indian air force plane missing

29 people on board

NEW DEHLI, INDIA – A spokesman for The Indian Defense Ministry said the Indian Air Force has lost contact with a transport plane, with 29 people onboard.

The spokesman, Nitin Wakanker, says the AN-32 aircraft departed from the south Indian city of Chennai at 8:30am local time on Friday. It was scheduled to arrive at the coastal city of Port Blair at approximately 11:30am, but had not established contact three hours after its scheduled arrival.

Indian government officials say a massive search by air force, navy, and coast guard has been initiated.
