3 Michigan teens returning home from Cedar Point seriously injured in crash

7 other teens suffered minor injuries

NORTHWOOD, Ohio – Three Livingston County teens on their way home from Cedar Point were seriously injured early Tuesday morning on northbound I-75 in a crash in which they were ejected from their vehicle.

The crash was reported at about 1 a.m. near mile post 198 in the city of Northwood.

A 17-year-old girl from Howell, identified as Jenna L. Halonen, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Express when she attempted to switch seats with the passenger, a 16-year-old girl from Brighton, while the vehicle was still in motion, authorities said. The driver lost control and the vehicle veered into the median and rolled over.

Lilley Kastamo, 16, of Howell and Ellie Kastamo, 16, of Brighton, were ejected from the van. They were taken to a hospital with incapacitating injuries, along with Halonen, who are listed in critical condition.

The eight other occupants of the vehicle were also taken to the hospital.

Local 4 has learned the teens are friends from church.

Rossford EMS, Northwood EMS, the Rossford Police Department, the Northwood Police Department, ODOT and VJ’s Towing assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
