Lapeer County mother accused in stabbing death of her son, who suffered from cerebral palsy

OTTER LAKE, Mich. – A woman in Lapeer County faces charges in connection with the stabbing death of her son, who suffered from cerebral palsy.

Tamara Leonard, 59, of Otter Lake, was arraigned Friday on a charge of open murder.

According to the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office, Tamara Leonard was the caregiver of Theron Leonard, her 24-year-old son who suffered from cerebral palsy,

They resided in a home on Briggs Road.

Lapeer County 911 received a call Friday from a woman who said she had stabbed another person within the residence and herself, according to authorities.

Deputies found Tamara Leonard and Theron Leonard stabbed inside the home. They were taken to the hospital where Theron Leonard was pronounced dead. Tamara Leonard was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Lapeer County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by Michigan State Police troopers.

The investigation remains active.

Leonard was taken to the Lapeer County Jail, where she is being held without bond.
