High school student shot while walking in Pontiac

PONTIAC, Mich. – A student was shot Monday morning while he was walking near a bus stop in Pontiac.

The shooting was reported on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near North Perry Street.

The high school senior was taken to the hospital. The victim said he was on his way to meet a girl when her boyfriend shot him in the back. Police are investigating. 

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said he was alert and talking on the way to the hospital. The student’s exact condition is unknown at this time. 

Dr. James Spruill, the superintendent of Pontiac Academy for Excellence, released the following statement:

"We are in close communication with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department as they are investigating the incident. We want to assure all parents and students that safety is our number one priority. The school day will continue as planned and counseling services are available to all students. We will share more information as the situation develops."
