Police: Man charged with larceny after stealing breast cancer donations
HARPER WOODS, Mich. – A Harper Woods man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly stealing breast cancer donations from a store in Wayne County and wreaking havoc on another in Macomb County, authorities said.
Matthew Sukkar is charged with larceny. Authorities said he attempted to steal two breast cancer donation containers Monday from a Kroger store in Harper Woods. In his haste to leave, he dropped one of the containers and fled in a tan Buick with approximately $100 worth of coins, according to authorities.
Authorities received a call Tuesday from a Kroger store in St. Claire Shores, reporting retail fraud.
Harper Woods Department of Public Safety recovered Sukkar’s Buick on Wednesday in the 19000 block of Lancaster Street in Harper Woods, where Sukkar was arrested.
Authorities said they recovered the stolen items and tracked down the breast cancer donations in Sukkar’s home after executing a search warrant.
Sukkar was arraigned Thursday.
He could face up to four years in prison if he is convicted.
