Family of teen killed in Stony Creek Metropark crash breaks silence

3 teens killed in crash

SHELBY CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A crash that killed three teenagers in Stony Creek Metropark happened a year and a half ago, but the legal battle over who is responsible is far from over.

Monday night, for the first time, the family of the man police said was driving the car involved in the crash is speaking out. Jonathan Manolios' family sat down with Local 4's Priya Mann to address some of the unanswered questions.

George Manolios is criticizing the investigation into the crash that killed his son and two others. The Macomb County Sheriff's Office identified Jonathan, 17, as the driver.

Three teens were killed and two others were seriously injured in the crash. George said mistakes were made early in the investigation.

He said there was a mix-up that affected the locations of the ejected victims. Through a Freedom of Information request, he learned police never conducted an accident reconstruction report.

While they still face a civil lawsuit, the family hopes others will learn from their ordeal.
