CANTON, Mich. – Sources close to Local 4 have confirmed that a veteran Dearborn Heights police detective allegedly crashed after a night of drinking, Tuesday.
The sergeant, with more than 20 years on the force, tested well over the legal alcohol limit of .12 after the crash, according to sources.
The crash occurred Tuesday night near Van Born and Haggarty roads in Canton, after the sergeant allegedly spent the night drinking with fellow officers at an event.
After leaving the event, the sergeant attempted to drive home.
Sources say the detective then fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed into the back of a parked semi.
The detective was suspended with pay pending charges.
Once he is formally charged, he will then be suspended without pay.
