Alleged drunk biker critically injured in Westland

Alcohol appears to be factor for bicyclist, police say


WESTLAND, Mich. – A 48-year-old Westland man is in critical condition after police said he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle on Newburgh Road.

Police said the man was hit on Newburgh Road south of Ford Road around 7 p.m. Wednesday. He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Police said initial investigation showed the bicyclist might have been drunk at the time of the crash. Alcohol was not a factor for the driver of the car, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
