Police: Auburn Hills store owner opened fire on intruder
Ohio man arrested, charged in string of break-ins
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – A store owner in Auburn Hills fired two shots at a man who broke into his business Sunday morning, police said.
The Auburn Hills Police Department said officers were called at 6:05 a.m. about shots fired in a shopping plaza at Opdyke and Hempstead roads.
From Auburn Hills police:
Upon their arrival one of the store owners reported that a man broke out the front window and entered his store. The owner who was inside the store at the time of the break-in fired his handgun twice at the intruder before the intruder fled in a gray Chevrolet Trailblazer with out-of-state license plates.
The officers checked the other business in the plaza and found that three others had been burglarized. Officers searched the area finding the get-a-way vehicle at a local hotel. Leroy A. Bridgeman was located and arrested at the hotel without incident.
Police said the four cases were presented to the Oakland County Prosecutors Office who authorized a four-count warrant of breaking and entering a building with intent to commit a felony or larceny against Bridgeman. He was arrested that same day.
Bridgeman, 35, of Canton, Ohio, was video arraigned before Magistrate Marie A. Soma of the 52/3rd District Court. A plea of not guilty was entered and bond was set at $40,000 cash or surety. A probable cause hearing was set for Nov. 28. at 1:15 p.m. at the 52/3rd District Court before Judge Nancy Tolwin-Carniak.
Bridgeman is being held at the Oakland County Jail.
