Westland woman sentenced to prison for stealing nearly $2M from veterans

Fuataina Afutiti sentenced to 2-20 years in prison

WESTLAND, Mich. – A Westland woman was sentenced Friday to two to 20 years in prison for stealing nearly $2 million from a veteran's foundation.

Fuataina Afutiti, president and CEO of the Veteran's Health Administration Credit Union, was arrested after an audit uncovered cash shortfalls and irregularities.

Afutiti, 50, was accused of stealing nearly $2 million to finance vacations and buy a Mercedes-Benz and a motor home.

She pleaded guilty to embezzlement.
