Campus Martius to hold annual "D-Drop" NYE party

DETROIT – Organizers held a press conference Thursday morning to highlight new partnerships, activities and entertainment for the Meridian Motor City NYE, or the "D-Drop" event held annually in downtown Detroit.

It's the seventh year for the free public event and this year there are more performers and a new 17,000 square foot Grand Celebration Party Pavilion.

This year, the NFL Sunday Night Football bus will be coming to the event and will show footage during the Sunday night football game.

"This year we are thrilled to raise the bar. We have seven bands, fire jugglers, stilt walkers and everything entertainment," said Matt Flynn, the executive producer for the event.

Two of the performers include Angela Davis and Leah Jeffries, better known for her role as "Lola Lyons" on TV. They will be singing the song "Light Up Detroit," written by Gerry Zonca.

"I am excited and I hope everyone will like it," said Jeffries.

The event starts at 4 p.m. and ends at 1 a.m. in downtown Campus Martius.

The Motown countdown VIP event starts at 8 p.m.
