Public Works Commissioner, Fraser Mayor to discuss Fraser sinkhole updates

The new public works commissioner in Macomb County says a sinkhole that has damaged homes and evacuated residents is her "baptism by fire."

Candice Miller was elected after years in Congress and state government. She and County Executive Mark Hackel plan to talk to reporters Sunday about the latest development at the Fraser sinkhole in suburban Detroit. It will be Miller's first day in office.

The sinkhole is being blamed on the collapse of a sewer line. Three homes have been damaged, and residents in 22 homes have been evacuated since Christmas Eve. On Saturday, thousands of county residents were urged to cut back on water use.

Miller says she's been told by experts that a thicker pipe should have been used in the 1970s.
