Mother arrested for suspicion of drunken driving with 2 children in vehicle
OXFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 28-year-old woman was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving after a crash with her two children in the vehicle Saturday in Oxford Township.
Police said the woman, of Sandusky, Mich., was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala southbound in the northbound lanes of Lapeer Road when she hit a 2003 Dodge Durango.
The Durango flipped onto its side and caught fire. Two good Samaritans were able to get the 19-year-old driver out of the vehicle. The driver was taken to McLaren Hospital in Lapeer and was air-lifted to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
The woman driving the Impala had her two children, a 7-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter in the vehicle. The boy was listed in critical condition and the girl was listed in stable condition.
A search warrant for blood was obtained and results are pending.
The crash remains under investigation.
